Corruption Isn’t Evil

To a dragonoid, exposure means death. After all, dragonoids like Avaritia, better known as Ava, were seen as monsters to be slain or prizes to be claimed. Ava learned this lesson young, fleeing her burning village clutching the only thing she had left: her younger sister. With no home to return to, Ava roamed from town to town, doing all she could to keep her and her sister alive. After months of this grueling nomadic life, the two overheard a minstrel playing a familiar tune. The little dragonoid ran to join in song and Ava joined in soon after. Their beautiful ballad reverberated throughout the whole village, catching the attention of a local Cairon lord who invited the sisters to his manor. Ava begrudgingly accepted, confident in her and her sister’s disguises. 

Ava awoke to the screams of her sister. The lord ordered his guards to secure his two dragonoid prizes and soon Ava and her sister were captured then separated. Using her sister as leverage, the lord forced Ava to entertain his guests with her singing. After months of torture, abuse, isolation, and threats to her sister’s life, Ava began to lose hope. In the absence of that hope, she began to hear whispers, whispers of hate, violence, power… and loudest of all, freedom.

Ava gave into the whispers of corruption and at her next performance she killed the lord, killed his guests, and burned his mansion to the ground. Finally embracing her freedom, she ran until her feet gave in, but even that did not stop her. Ava endured until she found her sister, but by then her sister had already perished. Between her agonized gasps and tears Ava heard more whispers, whispers telling her to sing. As she struggled to vocalize, the corruption empowered her voice with healing, enough to revive her sister, who joined in the breathy song and hugged her like never before.

With her sister safe, Ava wanders the world, using her draconic voice to heal, entertain, and protect. Sometimes though, she finds herself doing an odd job for a certain casino owner.
